Hi Gene,

Here is some more information on using the upper troposphere
on 10 GHz.

On 25 March, 2002, W7SZ and I ran a test from our home stations
using JT44 mode.

W7SZ is located 99 miles south of my location and this path is
highly obstructed. Our dishes were pointed at a common volume
near 30,000 feet.

The satellite 4 km WV(NW) animation image was showing light
green between our path. This color indicates weak signal level
conditions. Dark green indicates stronger conditions, blue is
even better and rusty orange is very strong signal levels.
No signals when the color is grey or darker.

When Len Garrett, W7JIP and I set new world records on 10 GHz
in 1959 and again in 1960, we never dreamed of this. All we
could think of was to get on high mountains.

Attached is a picture of the WSJT screen and a picture of the
satellite image.

There was no rain yet.

73,

Ernie, W7LHL
