The Loader Program 19jan.EXE

FOR PC AND EZKIT Lite 2181, NOT the KDSPx/2185

This program runs from the floppy drive and has no interaction with the hard drive and its Master
Boot Record. It does not write to the hard drive or interact with any existing software. All the files
required are on the floppy disk which is created from the the file 19jan.exe.

The DSP-10 is a really neat project that spans many disciplines. A feature of SDR is not having
a hardware front panel, but rather, defining the controls and operation through software. This program
is intended to ease the new user into the software operation with little computer background. If
you are not able to get the front panel displayed, then it is not due to the software. For the initial
operation the windows environment is needed to create a floppy disk. With the disk in hand, it is
easy to boot, or reboot the system into a true DOS environment. This should allow trouble shooting
of the new system. This is not intended to be anything more than an aid in getting started. It will identify
a few problems. Mainly it has files known to be the latest versions and known to work, all in one
download with a known operating system and a small degree of automation.

Following is a rough outline of the opertation.

Make a BOOT Floppy Disk that BOOTS into DOS and contains all the software required to run.
         A. Download the file using WIN to a temporary, or any directory.
         B. execute the downloaded file 19jan.exe and follow the program prompts
                  a. Execute means double click on the file name, or right click and choose open.

    2. Boot the PC with the Floppy Disk just made.
         A. Turn off the computer and insert the new Floppy and turn on the PC
         B. The PC should boot from the floppy disk and display a prompt.
                "type 2 then strike <ENTER>"

    3. Identify what COM is available in the PC
         A. The BIOS is read for the existence of a COM port, and reported on screen.
         B. Pay attention to what ports are identified. It is not uncommon that no serial
ports are enabled.  PNP BIOS will assign ports. Non PNP ports are in a menu
supplied by the motherboard manufacturer, Award, AMI or similar, usually accessed
by F1 function key , DELETE or ESCAPE while starting the PC. Watch for a prompt when
booting if you need to access the BIOS settings. Usually something on the order
of "F1 to ENTER SETUP" displayed when the PC starts.
         C. If no ports are found, the loader program quits here. You have a PC problem.
         D. If ports were found the loader pauses here, waiting for you to "hit any key to continue"

    4. Check if any COM identified has a connection to an  EZKIT-Lite or DSP-10.
         A. The port settings are read from an installed port, identified from the BIOS, and stored in variables.
         B. $$$ is sent on the port
         C. Look for a response from the monitor program  and display the response. (ok)
         D. If  a response is identified then keep these settings, and create a file P(1 -4).TXT
         E.  If no response is identified, show the error and restore the port settings from the variables.
         F. try the next port, if any.
         G. If no further ports, and nothing was identified, show menu to load PC program or exit.

    5.  If P(1 -4).TXT is found, use COM(1-4) to load UHF3 to the DSP otherwise
show menu (same menu as 4G) to load PC program or exit.

    6. At this point the DSP-10 is either running or shows some errors that may explain why it is not running.
